Slick and my ebook for The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat

On the November 26th post, A thankful moment ....Slick 11-26-13, I stated how Slick still does not sleep regularly in the kitty condo or 'hang' with the rest of the cat colony.  It is still this way which, to me, is upsetting.  I feel terrible for Slick that he still feels such a loss since his buddy Hemingway passed, Rest in Peace Hemingway 8-12-13, that he cannot live where he has for the last 4 to 5 years.  With the cold weather approaching, which is strange to say since we are in December but still so warm, I can only hope that this will have him forced to come inside the 'kitty condo' and then once again get back into a similar prior routine.

As for my book, The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat, I am excited to report that it is now finished in the ebook format and should be available shortly for purchase at amazon.com and barnesandnoble.com.  It is available in the ebook format at bookstore.authorhouse.com.  Shortly, I hope, the book with be available in the windows interactive application.  I will keep you updated ....

The Book Revue,a big thank you to Lynn and updating my blog....

I am glad and excited to report that my book seems to be making some headway and receiving positive feedback from parents of young children - yay!  I have also been in contact with The Book Revue in Huntington regarding a book reading with the children, a book signing I hope and then to have my book on their selves - another yay!!  Once I complete the arrangements for The Book Revue I hope to be on to Barnes and Noble.  Yes my book is available on line at Barnes and Noble but would love to see my book on their shelves too.  Of course I need to contact all the non for profit organizations in an attempt for them to sell my book which the proceeds would go to organization to further support there efforts.

A big Thank You to Lynn for her post and kind, supportive words about my book which led to many of my fellow school mates to do the same!  Of course a thank you to all who have purchased my book!

Lastly I am working on coordinating with a couple of individuals to have my blog 'spruced up' and will keep you all updated on that progress.

A thankful moment.......and Slick

Today as I looked out my window towards my backyard I saw two of the cats, my adopted kitties as I call them, from the cat colony merrily strolling and rubbing along the shrubs.  That sight just warmed my heart knowing that I am able to help these once homeless kitties have a safe place to roam, eat, drink and most of warm shelter.  If I could only do this for all the homeless animals which is what so many of us animal lovers dream of.  Even though this made me feel like I made a difference I quickly felt terrible for Slick.  Slick is my big, gray, once stray, cat who was the guardian and best friend to Hemingway who crossed the rainbow bring this past August 2013 Rest in Peace Hemingway ~ 8/12/13.  Slick has not been the same.  He does not eat at the regular time, he does not stay around the property and even with this terrible cold weather, he does not stay in their shelter, the kitty condo, too often.  So many people do not realize how animals feel just as we do.  Slick is still mourning over the loss of his best friend : (  I only hope he does go back to his routine by budding up with one of the others in the colony.  That would make me so very happy.  Here are two pictures of Slick - he is a beautiful, big gray cat and feel as though he fits the description of a true Russian Blue.

Slick on a very hot day in July 2012 on my retaining wall in my driveway.  I'm sure Hemingway was right near by : )

Meet 3 of my pet children from my cat colony ~

Here is a picture of 3 cats from the original cat colony.  That cat colony, at one time, had over 26 cats.  During all the trap, neuter and return efforts, T-N-R, some of the kittens or cats did not stay around the area.  I have always hoped they found another care taker since they were too frightened to return to the feeding station we had at that time.  As of right now, since Hemingway passed, I have 10 remaining.  In May and June of 2008 there were 2 litters of kittens born and below is a picture of 3 of them when they were a year old.  Of course they were the last litters of kittens as by then all the females were spayed.   The black cat with the white stripe down his nose is Willie, the all black cat is Isabellina, and the orange and white cat is Noah.   To see another adorable set of photo's of Noah drinking and lounging by the pool please see the post from June 10, 2011.

They enjoy, even to this day, relaxing in the back yard trying to mingle with my kitties.  Thank you for stopping by Caring Hearts Loving Paws ^..^

Peppie ~ Can anyone say comfy : )

Here is my Peppie all comfy, cozy and completely passed out in sleepy time on two separate evenings : )

Peppie, short for his full name Peppino, has been with me for over 5 years now and he just showed up one day at feeding time with the others from my cat colony.  As you can see he has warmed his way into our home for 4 1/2 years now.  He was named Peppino for the character, not to date myself, Peppino the taking mouse.  This boy can talk up a storm : )  Every time I try to get him on video, he stops his little chatter.  One of these days I am determined to catch our little boy chatting up a storm whether it is to let us know he has come in, whether to announce he is hungry and we are not moving fast enough or just because : )

Hope these two pictures but a smile on your face : )  and thank you for stopping by Caring Hearts Loving Paws ^..^

Yay - a new member and Thank You's

Recently we had a new member join our blog ~ Welcome aboard D. DaPuzzo!   It's always a wonderful surprise when we notice, welcome and thank a new member that wants to follow our adventures : )  It has been a slow process but we are starting to get some notice.  I realize our blog needs a little bit more pizzazz and we are getting there slowly but surely : )    Also I need to be more consistent but it can be, at times, a challenge with my full time position, working all the social sites for my book and physically getting out and about to promote my book.

Last week we had a nice donation of food for my cat colony so a big Thank You to Frank!  Frank is the gentleman I met when I came across the small cat colony at the closed Kings Park Psychiatric Center which I have had them all fixed. He is the main caretaker of that colony and a few other colonies on these grounds.  The grounds are huge - if I am not mistaken, the grounds are over 300 acres.  Several earlier posts is the story of those kitties and the one kittie, SuzieQ that is now part of my pet family.  I thought you might want find the history behind this center interesting and have provided the Wikipedia link to this location - Kings Park Psychiatric Center.

Then a big thank you to my neighbor, Dolores, who was so kind as to have purchased several books and place one of them in her Veterinarian's office!

Kitty Updates ~

Hello everyone ~ I am glad to report that SuzieQ is all better.  For a while I was a bit hesitant to blog about her progress as I feared it could be a jinx ~ silly I know but I was concerned.  Her fever, the first visit to the Vet, was 105.6 and then once the antibiotics wore off her symptoms started up again.  The second visit resulted in a fever of 105.8 and as my previous post mentioned, we tested her for any  possible Feline autoimmune illnesses and luckily all negative.  SuzieQ's is so active, as she should have been, and eating well - yay! She is the mother to the kittens I fostered and I believe she was very young when abandoned last year as she plays like a kitten herself.

My other kitties are all doing well and healthy too!  The adopted kitties, my cat colony, are all doing well but Slick, Hemingway's buddy and guardian, has not been himself : (   He is adjusting slowly to the loss of his buddy and is on a completely different schedule.  He does not spend much time sleeping or playing with the others on my property as he did.  I am hoping as time goes by and when winter comes he will mingle more and back to his regular self.

Rocky, of my cat colony,  was ill for a bit with what I believe was an ear infection as his head was tilted and he had difficulty with his balance.  We did not get the chance to trap him as that is not an easy task with all the places for him to run and hide but it seems he has improved on his own - thank goodness.  He still is not 100% but would say 98%.  If we can trap him at some point, he will go in for a much needed visit.

That's all for now ~  Will update more in a few days and pictures too  : )

Thank you, as always, for stopping by Caring Hearts Loving Paws ^..^

The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat and Updates

Excited to have sold two books and now have orders for 10 more!  I can only hope my story, and the future books, help inspire children on the homeless animal issue and in turn help change the outcome of homeless animals!

My apologies, once again, for not being consistent with my posting : (  My full time position, finishing up the book to become a ebook application and an interactive application on Windows 8 and three of my kitties being very ill, I had become behind in posting.  Thank you to all who follow me and stick by me : )

Shortly after Hemingway's passing is when this all started. I believe they are al better but I am a bit concerned that Callie might be having a relapse and SuzieQ may not be out of the woods just yet.  The two girls and Mylo had virus's which started with Mylo, then to Callie and then SuzieQ.  They all had fevers as high as 106 which is very severe and can lead to seizures - yikes!  Luckily no seizures!  SuzieQ being the last to come down with the virus did not take to the antibiotics the first round and I am hoping this round is it. She was tested for feline autoimmune or suppression illness and luckily, again, negative!  Callie now seems as though she is acting when she first came down with the virus which she is hiding.  So far she is still eating but need to monitor her closely. Thank goodness Mia and Peppie did not come down with this virus or my cat colony!  Fingers crossed that it stays this way!

Thank you again for visiting Caring Hearts Loving Paws!

Elfie and Lino find their forever home : ) July 29, 2013

The love of these two brothers, Elfie and Lino, is just too sweet!  I could watch them interact all day long - they look for one another and call for one another at all times!  What bonded brothers they are : )  It has been a wonderful experience to foster these two boys and knowing they have found such a loving and caring home was the "icing on the cake" : ) I consider myself  lucky to have showered them with much love and affection and to see them become the sweet and affectionate boys that they are!

Rest in Peace Hemingway ~ 8/12/13

With a heavy heart I am posting the loss of our Hemingway also known to all as Grandpa on Monday, August 12, 2013.  He was the eldest of the cat colony and as feral as he was, Grandpa really warmed up to us, Richard and me, his care givers.  Slick was his guardian from the day Slick mysteriously arrived on our front lawn.  Slick would always make certain Grandpa was in his sight, guided him on their walks, when Grandpa was up to it.  When it was time to eat, Slick actually would go to find Grandpa to let him know "come on" meal time : )   All so precious how the cat colonies care for one another.   As Grandpa aged, his walks were less frequent.   Thank goodness the reoccurring upper respiratory infection never attacked his only good eye.  But the bad eye was now constantly congested and it affected his nose too : (  Near the end we always made sure he was feed whenever he wanted even if it was more than twice a day.  We gave him a comfortable place to sleep and on those really hot days made sure the fan was always on him. The last week he loved sleeping on a mat in the kittie condo, as I call my very large two and half car garage, and that is where he took his last breath.  Rest in Peace Hemingway, Grandpa, and hope you are having a wonderful time reuniting with Ollie, Melky, Casey, Coco, Lexi, Frankie, BooBoo and Ziggy.

Kittens Update and Hemingway

The kittens are growing, adorable as can be and I owe you more pictures ~ sorry.  They will follow shortly - promise!  Socializing the kittens along with my full time position, wrapping up my children's book and caring for the elder Hemingway,  time is just flying by.

Hemingway is very old and has come down with an upper respiratory infection which seems to have really slowed him down.  We are trying antibiotics but they are not working as well as in the past.  A very difficult decision is going to have to be made soon as he does not go out much, sleeps plenty but eats very well. This makes the decision even harder.  You can see pictures and  Hemingway's story on the posts from 9/4/11 and 10/22/11.

Here are two additional pictures of Hemingway from the Fall of 2010.  The second photo he is, again, with his best buddy Slick.

I'm Back and Children's Book update ~

Hello everyone and sorry for the lack of updates on the kittens, their mommie and my cat colony.  Work, my main position, became a bit more hectic for several reasons which limited the time and brain power to posting except for the quick access to sharing articles that were easily available.

I will be posting more updates of the kittens with their mom in as much chronological order with exceptions here and there.

Also big news is that my non fiction children's book about Ollie is on it's way to production as all the illustrations have been signed off - Yay!  Yes it took me some time to get to this point but between work as well as connecting with some professional  writers for consultations a longer than expect delay occurred. Not being or every thinking I would be an author, it was important to me to connect and follow through with suggestions from my consultation to ensure my book is as creditable as possible.

How precious is this picture ~ SuzieQ cuddling with her two boys!!  They are 8 days old.  Their ears are not fully formed and as we know they cannot see and their hearing is very limited.  They need to be cuddling with their momma as kittens as well as puppies, newborn up to a few weeks old, cannot control their body temperature.

SuzieQ and kittens 4-26-13 ~ Good Morning

As you have probably noticed that I am trying, key word trying, to chronicle the progress of the kittens with their mommie, SuzieQ, but as you can tell I am just a bit behind : )  To play catch up, today I am uploading 2 videos of this cute little family on April 26, 2013 and the kittens are 6 days old. Currently they are solely dependent on their mother but are starting to move around more, just a bit more : )

SuzieQ and kitties on 4-25-13 plus an update on Dorie and Billy ^..^

SuzieQ and kittens are adjusting nicely for their first night : )  The kittens are so tiny and do not leave their mommie so really it is making sure SuzieQ is happy and comfortable in her new surroundings which I am sure is very scary.  Keep in mind she was someone's pet but then for over a year was left to fend for herself along with Dorie and then baby Billy.

I have visited with Dorie and Billy at the old Kings Park Psychiatric center and they were as sweet and friendly as prior to trapping them to be fixed the first two visits.  They allowed me to pet them as before but then the following few days were different maybe even frightened of me.  Now they could have recalled the TNR (Trap, Neuter & Return) experience but why the day I released them and two days following were they sweet as always.  In a few days I will update you on Dorie and Billy's story......

Thank you for taking the time to visit and read our updates.  As for SuzieQ and kittens, here is a video of them on 4-25-13 ~

SuzieQ and kittens arrive at their new foster home 4-24-13 ^..^

Hello everyone ~ finally a video as well as a picture of mommie, SuzieQ and her kitties plus a close up of the kittens hugging. They are 4 days old.  They were born on Sunday, April 21, 2013 at the shelter where SuzieQ was resting waiting to see the vet on the following Tuesday.  What a sweet surprise on Monday, April 22 and then they come home to me for fostering on April 24, 2013.  They will all need a safe and loving home ~

Kittie update for the Kings Park Psychiatric Colony ~

Okay so life has been a bit hectic with my full time employment and along with what you will discover when you read this post : )

On Wednesday, April 17, 2013, I was able to trap one of the two females remaining to be fixed (T-N-R) out of this cute little cat colony of  three.  This female is Dorie.   The last female needing to be fix is SuzieQ. SuzieQ  seems to be skeptical of the trap and eludes them but finally success on Saturday, April 20, 2013 - yay!

Now Suzie Q's appointment was not until the Tuesday and guess what happened on Sunday, April 21st??  Suzie Q had 2 kittens!  Too Cute!!   So you see the new additions mommie, Suzie Q and kitties have kept me busy as I am working on socializing Suzie Q so she can be adopted too.  She is a sweet and friendly but not completely trusting since she was left out on her own with Dorie and Billy, the youngest at this location in the old Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital.

More updates on mother and kittens as well as with Billy and Dorie.  Pictures to follow too!  Did not want to keep my followers waiting any longer and the updates will be following within a day or two at most - promise!!

Thank you for following along my journey as I still owe you, my followers, further updates on my original cat colony ^..^

New Cat Colony at Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital ~

This post updated May 14, 2013 ~

On Monday, April 15, 2013, I was able to trap one of the three adorable friendly and adorable cats I have been helping to care for at the once Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital grounds.  I will have to get the few pictures of these these cutie pies uploaded.  The only reason I waited to T-N-R is I was hoping to be able to find them a home to relocate all 3 together once I had them fixed. But now the two females are pregnant and can no longer wait.  Once I was able to connect with the main care taker of this cat colony I learned that these 3 where dropped off over a year ago.  At that time there was two adult cats with a kitten which is one reason they are so friendly.  The mother, who I call Dorie, loves to rub all over me when I am feeding them.  Dorie loves the  attention and all the petting.  They have remained friendly since the gentleman who has been caring for this little colony has shown them the love they deserve since the day he discovered them.

The cat that was trapped was the little boy who I call Billy.  He will be probably be released back to what he knows as his home tomorrow, Wednesday afternoon or Thursday.  While tomorrow I will be hoping to trap the two females, Dorie and her daughter SuzieQ.

Here is a picture of SuzieQ, Dorie and Billy eating in the Fall of 2012 ~

I will update you all in a few days and promise to update the blog on a more regular basis.  Yes I have made that promise before but with a full time position, I do get side tracked - my apologies for that.  In the post to follow will include updates on my other cat colony and Callie my last rescue from November 2011.

Lastly, my book is in the last stages for the sketches so hopefully I will be back on track with my children's non-fiction book too!

Thank you for following and hanging in there with me ^..^
