The Mission

Being an animal lover my whole life, my hope is to do my part in raising awareness on the issue of animal homelessness and to give back to my community.....

"Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer

Wonderful news! Animal Abuse cases to be tracked by the FBI....

What wonderful news!  Finally the abuse and cruelty to animals is being taken more seriously.  We know that there has been some strides in the manner in which the abuse cases have been handled but the punishment never seems to fit the acts of cruelty and abuse.  From this article we can only hope that since the FBI will be tracking these acts by properly recategorizing them we will see the proper actions taken against the perpertrators!

Ely ~ Rest in Peace 9.15.14

It is with a heavy heart I am writing as Ely, one of our cats from the colony, has passed away at the young age of 6 years and 4 months.  As most of you know, the cat colony lives on my property and in my very large 2 and half car garage or as I call it now the kitty condo.  Ely was one of the few that loved to be pet. He would come in and arch his back waiting to pet and pet and pet..... He was so very sweet and lovable and will be very much missed : ( Ely was found in the kitty condo lying near our door and what a very sad and somber moment that was.  As I type this post I do not have a picture handy but will post as soon as I do.  The morning of 9/15/14 while providing breakfeast to the colony, there was Ely waiting for his petting sesson.  I gave him treats with the others as I often do at breakfeast time. So what happened between breakfast and dinner time, sadly, we will never know.  Rest in Peace Ely and know you will be greatly missed :(

Found a lost tea cup Chihuahua with great outcome......

Yesterday, September 1, 2014, 7am in the morning I see this really small Chihuahua across the street crying and scratching on a neighbors door.  There door was closed so of course I called to the dog in hopes of getting the dogs attention.  I got the dog to turn around but what really worked is that the Chihuahua saw me petting my cat, Callie, and then started running over.  Low and behold I see now why the Chihuahua looked so small - it was a tea cup Chihuahua : )

After picking up the little Chihuahua and comforting the dog,  I brought the dog in my home and set up some water and food in a small carrier so the tea cup Chihuahua would feel safe and secure.  Quickly I took a picture and posted on facebook and instagram as well as bringing a picture to my local Yoga class since I would think, and hoped, the lost dog must be from the immediate area since how far could the little legs go.

On my way home from Yoga class, I saw one of my neighbors and inquired if they knew anyone who may have lost this little tea cup Chihuahua.  As luck would have it the dog was his ~ Yay!!   The poor tea cup Chihuahua was a little girl, Tiny short for Valentine, of 13 years old.  It seems after all these years only the last week or so Tiny has figured out how to get out of the backyard that is totally fenced in.  Tiny's perimeter is now being double and triple secured.

Below is a picture of Tiny and in such a short time we got very attached but glad she is home where she belongs : )  Now as for my cats my boys did not mind so much.  Smelled and walked away.  As for my girls, well they got all spooked and bent out of shape even though Tiny is so much smaller than they are : )

My neighbor informed me that they rescued Tiny as a baby from a puppy mill.  They paid for her but did not care as they knew she needed to be out of that environment.  Tiny's initial veterinarian visit did not provide much hope as she was not in the best of health.  They did not give Tiny many days or weeks to live.  Well at 13 years old she proves that with love and care, some health issues can be overcome.  See you around Tiny : )
