Happy Holidays and updates!

Hope everyone is in the swing of the Holiday Season as it is in full swing!  I cannot believe it has been several weeks and I did not get a chance to post any pictures or articles ~ my apologies.  My new employment does have me a bit busier than I expected.  Hopefully once I am completely acclimated and since I am finished with all the training classes I hope to have more time to spend on Caring Hearts Loving Paws.

Until then I wish you and all your loved ones an enjoyable Holiday Season!!

Yay a Slick sighting !!

For all these months we have not seen Slick and it has been heartbreaking wondering where is Slick?  Is he eating regularly?  Is he okay? Does he have a safe place for shelter or could he have found another home?  All these questions I ask myself all the time.  As my followers know, Slick's buddy, Hemingway, passed away on 8-12-13 Rest in Peace Hemingway ~ 8/12/13.  Every now and then I would wonder, could Slick have just arrived one day years back as Hemingway's angel? Silly many may think of my thought but as out of nowhere Slick arrived, he seemed to just disappear :(   For all my new followers or for those just stopping by, the following links provide a bit more detail:  A thankful moment....Slick 11-26-13Slick update 12-5-13,  Slick update 1-27-14 and Slick update 4-17-14.

Well I am happy to be typing that on Sunday, November 9, 2014, I saw Slick walking away from my home to across the street.  Of course I quickly ran to the door and started calling him in hopes of Slick coming back so I could provide extra food to entice him. Well he did stop in his tracks as he still recognized my voice which of course made me happy!! He kept looking at me and I had some hope that he might turn around and come back but a gosh darn truck came down the block and Slick quickly ran up the remainder of my neighbors driveway into the shrubs.

At least I know he is safe and he looked healthy not thin.  I am guessing he comes back to my home into the kittie condo when I am not around or just not at a window to see Slick coming across the street.  Now over the past few months we have always inquired with our neighbors if they have ever seen him.  They state they use to but not since the late Spring and Summer.  Slick must have a great place to keep hidden and yet safe!  As the winter weather gets ready to approach I am hoping that I will see Slick more often or hopefully he will slowly start to stay in the kittie condo with his cat colony buddies.  As soon as I have further updates on Slick, I will post asap :)

Book Update and more......

Hello everyone,  my apologies for the lack of updates and posts but I was in the midst of a transition.  It is bitter sweet but do believe it is for the best.  I have placed my main employment, which I was self employed, on inactive status and have taken a new position.  Several reason had gone into my decision and one being I am hoping to have more free time available to focus on Caring Hearts Loving Paws mission. So finalizing all that needed to be and getting geared up for my new employment has kept me a bit busier than normal.

My book is now available as an interactive application on Windows 8.  With children being able to interact with the book should lead to some extra fun!  Here is the link to this application;  http://apps.microsoft.com/windows/app/the-big-beautiful-fluffy-gray/45e7d237-4978-4ced-8f74-ba9533ed2eba

As I had once mentioned that I am working towards a goal of having my blog updated and more interactive.  Yes that will still be coming and one baby step in the process is I now have my email active for Caring Hearts Loving Paws which is adriana@caringheartslovingpaws.com.  My logo is just about complete.  Actually is was ready some time ago but I just wanted to think about it for a bit to make certain that changes were not needed or needed.  As we know, once one commits, there is no turning back.

A BIG thank you to Frank, my friend who feeds the cats at the old Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital, as he has donated food for my kitties I care for!  He has done so several times over a long period of time and I am very grateful.

Lastly I have another 'Meet the Author' event at another Raymour and Flanigan store on November 9th, 2014.  I will post details within the following week.

Wonderful news! Animal Abuse cases to be tracked by the FBI....

What wonderful news!  Finally the abuse and cruelty to animals is being taken more seriously.  We know that there has been some strides in the manner in which the abuse cases have been handled but the punishment never seems to fit the acts of cruelty and abuse.  From this article we can only hope that since the FBI will be tracking these acts by properly recategorizing them we will see the proper actions taken against the perpertrators!

Ely ~ Rest in Peace 9.15.14

It is with a heavy heart I am writing as Ely, one of our cats from the colony, has passed away at the young age of 6 years and 4 months.  As most of you know, the cat colony lives on my property and in my very large 2 and half car garage or as I call it now the kitty condo.  Ely was one of the few that loved to be pet. He would come in and arch his back waiting to pet and pet and pet..... He was so very sweet and lovable and will be very much missed : ( Ely was found in the kitty condo lying near our door and what a very sad and somber moment that was.  As I type this post I do not have a picture handy but will post as soon as I do.  The morning of 9/15/14 while providing breakfeast to the colony, there was Ely waiting for his petting sesson.  I gave him treats with the others as I often do at breakfeast time. So what happened between breakfast and dinner time, sadly, we will never know.  Rest in Peace Ely and know you will be greatly missed :(

Found a lost tea cup Chihuahua with great outcome......

Yesterday, September 1, 2014, 7am in the morning I see this really small Chihuahua across the street crying and scratching on a neighbors door.  There door was closed so of course I called to the dog in hopes of getting the dogs attention.  I got the dog to turn around but what really worked is that the Chihuahua saw me petting my cat, Callie, and then started running over.  Low and behold I see now why the Chihuahua looked so small - it was a tea cup Chihuahua : )

After picking up the little Chihuahua and comforting the dog,  I brought the dog in my home and set up some water and food in a small carrier so the tea cup Chihuahua would feel safe and secure.  Quickly I took a picture and posted on facebook and instagram as well as bringing a picture to my local Yoga class since I would think, and hoped, the lost dog must be from the immediate area since how far could the little legs go.

On my way home from Yoga class, I saw one of my neighbors and inquired if they knew anyone who may have lost this little tea cup Chihuahua.  As luck would have it the dog was his ~ Yay!!   The poor tea cup Chihuahua was a little girl, Tiny short for Valentine, of 13 years old.  It seems after all these years only the last week or so Tiny has figured out how to get out of the backyard that is totally fenced in.  Tiny's perimeter is now being double and triple secured.

Below is a picture of Tiny and in such a short time we got very attached but glad she is home where she belongs : )  Now as for my cats my boys did not mind so much.  Smelled and walked away.  As for my girls, well they got all spooked and bent out of shape even though Tiny is so much smaller than they are : )

My neighbor informed me that they rescued Tiny as a baby from a puppy mill.  They paid for her but did not care as they knew she needed to be out of that environment.  Tiny's initial veterinarian visit did not provide much hope as she was not in the best of health.  They did not give Tiny many days or weeks to live.  Well at 13 years old she proves that with love and care, some health issues can be overcome.  See you around Tiny : )

Happy 13th Birthday Mia

It is Mia's 13th birthday ~ Yay!!  Mia or should I say as our Vet called her from Mia's first visit at 5 weeks old, Miss Mia : )  She was feisty then and still is : )  Love my little girl yes little girl even if she is now considered a senior.  Mia has even gained some weight over the last several years but again I say my little girl : )  With the other cats in the house, Mia has access to food all the time.  We try to be as diligent as possible and pick up the other cat food dishes but inevitable there are times we forget :(

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MIA!!  WE LOVE YOU!!

Great Story from Life with Cats ~ Hero cat protects a five year old boy!

What a wonderful story!! Way to go Smudge!!  Way too many people do not give enough credit to our furry feline pet children!!  Cats rock!!  I have had both cat and dogs and love them both, love all animals, just wish people who do not prefer to have a cat as a pet would state exactly that and not that they 'hate' cats.  Hate is such a strong and ugly word!

Save the Plum Beach Cats | Medical Expenses - YouCaring.com

This cat colony has been living at Plum Beach in Brooklyn, NY for over 8 to 10 years. Well cared for and all spayed or neutered.  Some one decided that these cats are now a problem and the National Parks Department wants the cats removed by this weekend.  Very sad :(   Initially they wanted them all removed by last weekend or they would trap and remove which we all know what the outcome means.  Again very sad :(  Luckily this woman has found a safe place for all 25 cats but needs assistance with the cost of the relocation and having all the cats seen by a veterarian before being moved.  If you can find a way to given even a few dollars, it will be greatly appreciated.  The link takes you to the donation site and tells the story.  If you would like any further information, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.  These poor kitties thank you too!!

Where oh where is Slick?

As you all know, those who have been following Caring Hearts, since Hemingway passed in August of 2013 his buddy and guardian, Slick, did not take it well.  Unfortunately this is what I had expected but I did not expect him to be so devastated that he did not stay around the property or sleep in the kitty condo : (  Since August and September 2013, we have seen Slick but it has became less and less.  As I have previously posted, even during this past brutal winter we had here in Smithtown, he rarely slept in. On occasion we would see him come in for food and then leave.  Slick was close with the other kitties of the colony and would even sleep with them as well with Hemingway.  It seems that with the loss of his buddy that he looked after like a doting brother and protector he no longer wants to even be with the others.  I can only hope that he is safe and maybe even found a new home.  Of course I would prefer Slick to still be with the cat colony and with us but if his heart is so broken that he cannot, I want him to find another loving home.  To think he might be wasting away without enough food is so upsetting since I have no idea where he had wondered off to after Hemingway passed to even try to get him food.
There are pictures of Slick and Hemingway in the posts from Rest in Peace Hemingway 8-12-13, Slick update 11-26-13, Slick update 12-5-13 and Slick update 1-27-14.
I only wish that people would realize how much animals feel like we do.  Obviously they cannot express themselves as we do but if the non believers took the time to care, they would see how animals show signs of happiness, insecurities, fear, love among their own kind, sadness etc....
Just as Slick appeared on my front lawn and took the role of the caregiver, guardian and buddy to Hemingway he just slipped away.  Maybe he was a kitty angel and when I hear a bell ring I know it is him but I am going on the basis that he has found another person or family to feed and care for him as I had.  Or maybe better yet, maybe he will return in the days or months ahead.

Slick Update, Thank you's and a new follower : )

Even through this polar vortex we are having in the Northeast Slick has not been around.  The last polar vortex we had over two weeks ago he was in the kitty condo but not his time.  It breaks my heart that since the passing of his best friend Hemingway, Rest in Peace Hemingway ~ 8/12/13 ,that Slick would do without all the comforts of  having a roof over his head and, of course, food whenever he chooses.  Whenever I did see Slick come by, if I had not left for work, I'd run down to the kittie condo and give him a fresh can of food in hopes to have him realize it is still a happy place as he as all his other cat buddies he used to play and pal around with.  Now my kittie condo is my very large, a 2 and half car garage, that my cat colony lives in.  One dream of mine, notice I state dream, is to have enough funds to one day renovate the 2 and half car garage to be more cozy for the cat colony and for at least one of my cars : )  In this picture below is Slick and you can be assured that that day in 2009 Hemingway was some where right near by.  They use to love soaking up sun on the cold winder days.

A big Thank You to my cousin's Loretta and Dennis as they donated a cat tree for our kittie condo and the cat colony or as I call them my adopted kitties love the new addition and much appreciated! Another big Thank you to Frank for a donation of cat food - always very much appreciated!  Lastly a big welcome to our new follower, Brian that joined our blog ~ thank you for joining Caring Hearts Loving Paws ^..^
