Miss my Luigi a/k/a Louie

I know it has been some time since I have posted and hope to get back on some track to share stories and updates about my kitties and any adventures.  August 21, 2018 was a sad day as our feral boy Luigi a/k/a Louie crossed over the rainbow bridge 💔😥🐾I never knew how old he was but knew he was not young. He started coming round approximately 4 to 5 years if not 6 years ago.  All my other kitties never minded him around and he liked being with them but of course outside. He would not come in the house no matter how we tried. He never let me touch him until last night, 8.21.28, when he was so weak. I was able to pet him a several times. I last saw him Friday morning, 8.17.18, after a long bout of not feeling well he was around all the week of 8.12.18 as he seemed better since he was eating twice a day and his eyes even looked brighter. All of a sudden the night of 8.20.18 he was back resting, the best he could, by the back door. That warmed my heart as it was if he came to say goodbye😥and felt that this was his safe place~home. A book event and my apologies again.....

With interest rates so slow I have been so busy with my main employment- so sorry! I am still working on pushing for my book and helping homeless animals and of course the cat colonies.

In the meantime I am at an event tomorrow, 8.6.16, for a Summer Camp for children with cancer. The event will be at the Raymour and Flanigan in Garden City, 895 E Gate Blvd near BuyBuy Baby with my book; The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat.  I will be there from 1 to 2:15. There maybe some animals for adoption too!

Candy.......and update

Hello to all,

I know you are all tired of me apologizing for the delay in between posts so I will just say that since starting at Bethpage Federal Credit Union in October 2014, I have gradually gotten busier and busier. That is good but yet bad since it takes me away from my blog and writing my next children's book.  All I can promise is that I will get back on track..........  Also since my last post I have broken my left wrist which also slowed me down a bit.  It is almost healed and trying to get full movement and strength back while being gentle not to re-injury my wrist.  Hopefully in 4 more weeks I will be told I am all healed.

Several times I had promised the update on my Candice a/k/a Candy.  To this day I keep hoping to see her come walking back home.  She vanished one day a month or so after we had the passing of Addie.  Candy was not the type to wonder away from my home.  She was a feral cat from my cat colony but was always resting in my driveway or in the garage a/k/a kitty condo and always in for breakfast and dinner.  I can only hope and pray that whatever happened to this sweet girl was without suffering.  The thought that someone trapped her I just can't see since she rarely wondered as I previously mentioned.  It is possible, I guess, as one never knows if there was the one time Candy decided to wonder a bit and someone had a trap set.  If so, I hope of hopes they are treating her well.  I try not to let my thoughts wonder or I just keep getting upset.  If she did cross the rainbow bridge, I hope she connected right away with her buddy Addie and the others from my cat colony that have crossed.

Caring Hearts Loving Paws and I would like to send you wishes for a wonderful Spring season!

With the spring season comes kittens so if you see any abandoned kittens, please do reach out to the many organizations, local town or myself and we can guide you.  There are many organizations or towns that do not take in the kittens but if you could foster them or find them a foster, the organizations will be able to take them in once old enough.  However, there are other organizations that can take in the kittens.  Many times the only reason they cannot is due to not having fosters home for them since kittens need care and socializing.  If you do find yourself with an abandoned kitten, again, please contact some of the organizations listed on my blog or contact me and I will help you locate an organization.

Yes I cannot believe over a month since my last post as it seems I have not kept my promise but will do my best not too let so much time pass. The next post will have pictures of Candice, a/k/a Candy,  and more.........

Hello to all,

I hope everyone had a fun and loving Valentine's Day! Whether you had a special someone or special pet child to share the day with, I hope it was a wonderful day!

As promised, I am going to get back on track with regular posts and updates.  Today I am posting 2 cute articles; one on how we can learn from cats to deal with difficult people and the other is about breaking the typical stereotype associated with 'The Cat Lady'

Within a week or two will be a write about my sweet Candy (Candice) that I mentioned on the 1.3.16 post.  She was the other kitty that we sadly lost, simply vanished.  To this day I hope and pray it was not fowl play.   Over the past 2 and half years I have lost 6 of our adopted kitties, the cat colony kitties. Breaks my heart but what is one to do but keep caring for the others in the same manner which is to keep them  kitties safe, loved and feed knowing I did my best with those that have crossed the rainbow bridge.

There were once a total of 18 that I cared for in this colony and unfortunately some had passed but it never seemed as if so many went so close together.  In my future posts I will write those stories and the other cats I had TNR'd, cared for but they stopped coming around for reasons I will never know and before they had access to my now known kitty condo, my large 2 and half car garage.

Rest in Peace Addie......

On September 1st, 2015 we sadly lost our Addie : (

Sadly our little Addie passed and this was the difficult post I was referring to.  Addie being the one who still acted the most feral even though he was with us for 7 and half years.  He would always be around to eat, rest and have a safe place to sleep at night but I still could not really pet or get to close to him on most occasions.  For this reason, I did not know what to do as he started to take a turn for the worst.  It seemed, for a few years, he would not feel well and then bounce right back.  On many occasions I would realize he was having trouble with bowel movements.  I would give him olive oil in his food and all was better.  On a regular basis I would incorporate the olive oil into the feeding schedule to help Addie and the other kitties.  We know it couldn't hurt them :)

All seemed to be going along just fine until one day in the later part of the summer I noticed how Addie was losing weight.  Knowing the trauma that would be caused by attempting to get Addie to the veterinarian, I could not decided what was best for him. Also keeping in mind that once, and if I was able to trap him, getting him to the veterinarian, I was sure continued treatment would be necessary and knew I would never be able to trap him again.  Those of us who know cats, once they know what could be coming, they will do everything in their power, even when ill, not to have the situation happen again.  Especially with ferals.  He was not truly feral but enough so.

That is why this post was so difficult to type even to this day. I still beat myself up not knowing if I made the right decision; letting him go peacefully at home without trauma or to have put him through the trauma.  To this day it brings tears to my eyes.

He progressively got worse but always ate a bit and drank his water which is part of the reason I felt it best for Addie to be home and go peacefully with is siblings and buddies.

Then on Sunday, August, 30, 2015 when he came to the back door for some food, Addie actually rubbed on my legs and looked me right in my eyes.  It broke my heart and again questioned if I took the right path for little Addie.

I will always remember that last look and one could imagine many variations as to why and what he was trying to tell me.

Sweet, little Addie ~ I hope he is running around over the rainbow bridge with all his other siblings and buddies that passed.

Happy New Year and I'm Back ~my apologies

Happy New Year to all my followers and visitors!  I wish you all a wonderful 2016 filled with Love, Peace and Happiness!

My apologies are for several reasons;
First I let my work interfere with updating and posting on my blog and
Secondly the loss of two more of my adoptive kitties, Addie and Candy, made it difficulty for me to post.  Every time I started to type a post I felt sadden with the stories to tell and kept saying I will post later on.

Well here we are months later and have made a promise to myself and to my followers that I will be posting on a regular basis.  In the coming days I will post first about the loss of Addie and then Candy and you will see why I was torn to tell the stories.

I know it sounds so silly about not being able to complete the posts about the two kitties when caring for the stray and feral cats, there are times it weighs on one as to what maybe could have been done differently to help or what happened and where did they go hoping they did not suffer.  My cat colony was over 16 and now I am down to 5.  They live in my very large garage, coming in and out as they please, so even though one gets very attached to a cat colony they care for but when they live this close it is a bit harder as, again, you feel maybe one could have done more.

For all the homeless animals, I always wish they could be rescued and never feel any pain but only love!!

Hello and Pet adoption Event.....

Hello and cannot, once again, believe so much time has past! My apologies!  I will get back on track as I have cute pictures to post of my adopted kitties of my cat colony that lives in my kittie condo plus of my kitties.

I'm exciting to announce that I will be at the Raymour and Flanigan in Valley Stream on Saturday, 8.22.15, as they are holding another pet adoption event. Like last year, Bideawee will be there with sweet cats and dogs who need a loving forever home. I will be there with my children's book, a true story, of a homeless cat. I will be there from 1 to 2:30 as I have a prior engagement but the animals will be there until 5pm. Looking forward to meet those who stop by and those who purchase my book. More importantly, I hope many pets get adopted!!

Hello to all,

Wow does time fly by as I can't believe my last post was June 13th ~ my apologies.

I hope everyone is having a safe and happy Fourth of July; enjoying spending time with loved ones and those that are special in your lives.  Let us not forget to thank all those who serve to protect our independence.

As for all the homeless animals on every fourth of July, hoping they all have a safe place to hide with the fireworks that will be occurring this evening.  Also hoping they will be safe from those foolish, to be polite, people who don't think twice about harming innocent animals.

Here is a cute link about 'cat people'.  Now personally, and I'm sure many will agree, that the label 'crazy cat person' has a negative connotation and all of us who have cats, foster cats, care for cat colonies and conduct trap-neuter-return should be proud to help these homeless cats.  They get some real love that they so deserve even if it is in small doses. There are many who help not only homeless cats but other animals too.  It is awesome to know we all have a part of the change that is occurring towards homeless animals as well as being a part of changing the way many people feel about animals.

Hello ~ Meet some of the adopted kitties ^..^

I hope this post finds my followers well and anyone who stops on by for a visit.  Here is a picture of Noah last week resting in my front flower bed....

Noah and his remaining siblings and cousin's, as I call them, are 7 years old as of the May and this month June.  Noah was from a litter of six in May 2008 and then there was a second litter born in June 2008.

Here is a picture of the adopted kitties when I come home from work.  You get to see a better picture of Noah, the orange and white tabby.

This photo to the left you have Noah with Candy who is the calico cat, Isabella all black, Addie the white and black cat and then Sometimes or also he is know as Sometimes Henry.  Sometimes seems to be older in age and must have with the original group of ferals-strays I was feeding with the cats from my other posts.  Hemingway, Melky, Casey and others who after trap-neuter-return did not all stay around.  Those I truly hope found other homes that feed and protected them.

I'm Back........My apologies and now for updates

Hello to all my loyal followers and visitors,

It has been way too long without a post and again my apologies!  My new employment, since closing my company, has kept me quite busy.  Good in one aspect not so good for being able to stay on top of my blog and hoping to have Caring Hearts Loving Paws grow.  All good though as I believe I have figured out a way to balance both worlds : )

There has been a lot going on here at Caring Hearts Loving Paws. First of all we lost another adopted kitty :( I wanted to post immediately but put off while I tried to find a picture which I finally did.  We lost Sylvester March 29, 2015.  As you know we lost Ely last September 2014, Rest in Peace Ely 9.15.14.  After the loss of Sylvester too we did some research and learned that cats can have heart issues that go unnoticed and cause a type of heart attack like we suffer.  However their attack is fatal unfortunately. This can happen to a young kitten or at any age.  It is the only answer I can come up which is so disheartening.  Here is a picture of Sylvester in January 2011 peaking in from the front window ledge right after a bad snow storm as the adopted cats did not have many areas to roam.  I still need to try to locate a picture of Ely and promise to keep looking.

Sylvester was just as his name; adorable and yet always seemed to be mixing it up with his siblings :) That was my Sylvester!

For those who are new to Caring Hearts Loving Paws, the kittie cats I call my adopted kitties are the cats from the neighborhood that I TNR'd (trap-neuter-return) and have been living in my large 2 and half car garage or as I call it my kittie condo : ) It worked out for the best for my adopted kitties, especially with the horrible winters we have been having, when only two of my neighbors had issues with where the cats were being housed and feed.  They have lived in their 'kittie condo' for over 6 to 7 seven years.  They have a cat door to come in and out of their 'home'. 

Now as for Dorie, my latest rescue, she is not liking her sister SuzieQ.  Doris was the last cat of the small cat colony I had TNR'd left at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center.  On January 25th, 2015, the first big snow storm of this year - ugh!, I went and grabbed her finally!  It took me a very long time to befriend Dorie after my last attempt in February 2014.

There will be more on Dorie, and pictures, and other updates in my future posts.  As mentioned, I have found a balance and will continually post to keep Caring Hearts Loving Paws growing as well as to promote my book, The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat, as I hope to write another children's book.

How to tell the difference between a stray and feral cat and help them survive - from The Animal Rescue Site -

Hello and hoping everyone is keeping warm!  Especially hoping all the stray and feral kitties have as safe and as warm as possible of a place to take cover!  With weather that we are having this winter and every winter my heart breaks thinking of all the homeless animals.  I only wish I could help them all and try to do all that I can within my ability.  If we all could do just one small act of kindness, maybe we can slowly change the lives of the homeless animals.  As important is to educate all the pet owners that all their pet children need to be spayed or neutered and that their pet children are part of their family forever.  If a difficult financial situation should occur, please never abandon your pet children. They love and depend on you so please do your research and find an organization that can help. There are many out there, as difficult as they can be to locate, but please do not give up and keep researching.  As we know there is Facebook and many other social sites to reach out too as well.  Thank goodness for the many organizations that are making such strides in changing the way of the world and how they look at these poor homeless animals.  I applaud and support them! I am glad to say I am trying to do my part too!

I will work on posting a list of links and organizations that anyone in need can reach out to.  Stay tuned and give me a bit to work on.......

Dorie ~ Before and After

Finally Dorie is now living in a warm and cozy home.  She always had food and interaction where she lived her homeless life at the Kings Park Psychiatric Center. I would always be there every day as well as the original feeder of the few cat colonies living in this Center.  However whenever there was bad weather and the cold it always broke my heart.  After many, many months of winning her trust and having her get use to the transfer carrier, on the day of the Blizzard (1.26.15) as the storm started to pick up steam, I drove over and scooped her up.  Dorie came running for her feeding and meowing loudly as she usually did in bad weather.  I opened the carrier, placed dry food in, picked her up and placed her in.  As she started to eat I quickly closed the cover!  She of course cried all the way home but I knew it was best.

Blizzard 2015 ~

The kitties are getting restless and trying to keep them as busy as I can.  They are sleeping a bit more, thank goodness : )

Not sure if you all recall, I have been trying to trap and find the right time to take home the last kittie, Dorie, remaining at the Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital.  I trap, neutered and return 2 of the 3 cats of this small colony back in Spring of 2013. I returned Dorie and Billy.  Billy was rescued and adopted approximately 6 months later.  Then there was SuzieQ who had 2 kittens before I could have her spayed.  I fostered all three, got her 2 boys adopted together and then could not return her after being with me for 4 months in a warm and safe home.  Of course she was then spayed but it left poor Dorie all alone.  I did post of my failed attempt to trap Dorie last February 2014 which lead her to be frightened of me.  Well after all this time I have absolutely befriended her again.  Every day I would visit her and spend 15 to 20 minutes with her.  With news of the impending Blizzard I decided I needed to get her.  Around 1:30 on 1.26.15, as the storm started to pick up, I headed over to Kings Park Psychiatric Hospital.  Sure enough she wanted to eat and came running. I set up my carrier, as I have been doing, placed food in the carrier, picked her up to place her in the carrier to eat and then closed the top. Sounds easy, right?  It was pretty easy but only because for many months I have been conditioning her with this carrier.  In the next few days I will post pictures.  Dorie is adjusting but she is not happy about my cats who come to visit her.  Now the fun begins to get all the cats as friendly as possible as well and just as important, get her use to being in a home after being out and about for 2 1/2 years.  Dorie and SuzieQ were abandoned when they were pregnant at a very early age.  I say they were approximately 6 months to 8 months old at that time.

Happy Holidays and updates!

Hope everyone is in the swing of the Holiday Season as it is in full swing!  I cannot believe it has been several weeks and I did not get a chance to post any pictures or articles ~ my apologies.  My new employment does have me a bit busier than I expected.  Hopefully once I am completely acclimated and since I am finished with all the training classes I hope to have more time to spend on Caring Hearts Loving Paws.
