The Mission

Being an animal lover my whole life, my hope is to do my part in raising awareness on the issue of animal homelessness and to give back to my community.....

"Compassion for animals is intimately connected with goodness of character; and it may be confidently asserted that he who is cruel to animals cannot be a good man." ~ Arthur Schopenhauer

Callie's Story ~ continued

On October 31st, 2011 Callie was trapped.  Not knowing if a boy or a girl at that time, the cute little kittie was named Callahan since living and being trapped at Callahan's Beach in Smithtown, NY.  A little wet food in a large covered carrier, in Callahan went and the door was closed right behind.   This poor little kittie was so freightened as to what was happening to the then life that was known to Callahan.  The carrier was kept covered on the drive to Callahan's new home.  It is best to keep cats trapped covered as they do feel more secure in a small and covered confined area.  I know for dogs it is the same but not certain when they are initially rescued.  Anyway home Callahan came and into a room that would have a large dog crate to be the new home for socializing.   Once cats pass the age of 6 to 8 weeks without any human contact and the longer time passes, the longer it takes to socialize the cat. There personality also plays a part in the timeline of quick they become friendly.  I had my job cut out for me and was ready for my adventure.

You see, I was a bit spoiled, Mylo was my first cat I ever socialized and he was very receptive to my interaction.  Maybe Mylo was use to seeing me since I would bring food to the feeding station for the feral and stray cats in my neighborhood but boy oh boy it was relatively quick.  Within a few days, Mylo was eating tuna fish right out of my hand : )  What joy that gave me!   All the feral cats in my neighborhood I made sure were spayed or neutered and then released back to the colony.  For some reason when Mylo came back from being neutered, I felt I was ready to give socializing a try.  I even called my shelter and placed Mylo on the adoption list.  Since the wait list is always so long, we figured I would have him all socialized by the time the call came.  Well we all know what happened - yes Mylo was socialized all right but I could not give him up. Mylo is so sweet and adorable! Mylo was born in December 2007 and was trapped, neutered and returned to me to be released the end of March 2008.

Here is a picture of Mylo a couple weeks into the process of socializing him and a pictures of Callie.

Minor Delay ~ The Big, Beautiful, Fluffy Gray Cat

A little disappointed but of course I want the book to be perfect.  So the hold up is due to some of the actual photographs of Oliver that I would like to use need to be fine tuned.... the quality of the picture needs to be adjusted for printing, if possible.  Let's cross our fingers other wise we add an illustration.

Hopefully by Monday we will be on track ^..^
